✤MURO Marching : Hedonism✤

06/06/25

Hi everyone! Today, I'm talking about a VRChat World creator I like!

First, a history lesson! When VRChat released their Udon update in 2020 (an update that allowed creators to start using code in their Worlds with the aforementioned programming language Udon, which you can read more about here), creators suddenly had a whole new box of tools to play with. They could program things to happen in their Worlds instead of relying on jury-rigged systems and having to be deeply familiar with how Unity and VRChat work. Udon lowered the barrier of entry for creators while also providing them with more tools to work with.

The creator I'm talking about today is suzuki_i, who creates many worlds based on technical gimmicks they discover while working with Udon. Since these Worlds tend to be very small and focus on one or two concepts, I'm including multiple in this post. An example is SUZUOIL, which showcases the creator's take on a realistic oil painting simulation. You can blend colors to create new shades, and brushstrokes follow the direction of the brush.

HEDONISM

Hedonism is a forced-perspective puzzle world where instead of being in a first-person viewpoint, you navigate using the footage from security cameras around the World. It's a very short experience, more of a tech demo than a complete game. There's no story. All the floors and walls are a crisp, stark white. The World description doesn't tell you much when initially looking at it, either. I love a mystery, so I hopped right in.

"Pressing F12 in desktop mode breaks the screen․" - Ingame World description.

Since the experience is so short (and entirely able to be skipped if you know the last hint), I won't be going over the puzzles here. If you check it out, I recommend playing in Desktop Mode instead of VR to avoid getting disoriented. I love the visual elements of this World - it feels like you're being monitored, no matter what turn you make. Each corner your character sneaks around features an audible click to the next camera view, and sometimes, the camera is recording from unexpected places. Part of the fun is exploring and seeing just how the camera placement captures every area you can think of.

ECCENTRIC ROOMS

Eccentric Rooms (and the rest of the Eccentric series, Eccentric Objects, and Eccentric Mirrors) is a World that I show to every single person I bring into VRChat. It requires a group of at least two people for the whole experience. Ironically enough? My camera can't capture even half of the technical gimmicks that this World uses because of its design. From an infinite hall where you catch glimpses of yourself but can never reach to a hall that disappears behind you once you go down it, there are a lot of fun interactive exhibits.

If you check out these Worlds, leave a comment and let me know what you think! Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time!
